Any Questions?

  • Who can join EUAC?
EUAC is open only to the students and staff of The University of Edinburgh. If you don’t fall into either of these categories, Leith Community Archers holds classes open to the broader Edinburgh community.
  • I’ve never done archery before - can I join?
Absolutely! When you attend your first beginner session, just tell a coach it’s your first time. They’ll teach you everything you need to know.
  • Can I try out archery before committing to a membership?
We hold taster sessions in Welcome Week where you can meet current EUAC members and try out archery. During week 1/2 of the semester, if you have a gym membership you are welcome to come during our beginners sessions to try out archery without buying an archery membership. You must purchase both an archery club and Peak-time gym membership by Week 3 to continue shooting with the club. We will also hold a taster session at the beginning of Semester 2; however, please note there is no membership grace period in Semester 2. You must purchase memberships immediately after the taster to continue shooting with EUAC.
  • Can I join during the year?
Yes, you are more than welcome to join at any point. Just keep in mind that club and gym memberships can only be bought in semester or yearly segments, so you must gauge if joining at the start of a new semester (Sept/Jan) will be more worth it for you!
  • Who can use the range?
Only members of EUAC and EUAAC (our Alumni sister club) are allowed to use the range. How you can use the range, i.e. alone/with people and when, depends on your membership and permissions agreed on by the committee. If you are not a member, you are not able to enter the range at all as a matter of safety.
  • How do I get up-to-date notices and information about the club?
Our main form of communication with our members is via our Discord. Links for joining get sent out once you purchase membership. Major updates get posted onto Instagram stories and Facebook stories, but not all. We strongly recommend you join our Discord for the most up-to-date information.
  • "I was a beginner, now I have bought my own equipment and want to buy an experienced membership."
Great! You want to progress in your archery journey! First, we have to approve your new gear for use in our range, and make sure you know the safety rules. For more information on doing this, contact our equipment officer Alex on Discord. After that, you will be told how you are able to train in the range. Please note, most archery equipment brought to us gets approved, however there are some things we cannot allow. These could include: unusual bow materials or extremely budget setups bought from Amazon, for example. This is purely for safety reasons, as we cannot predict how they will hold up and may explode and hurt you and others.
  • Is there any safe storage for my equipment in the range?
We have lockers available to rent, though the number is subject to availability. Catch one of the committee members in the range, or email/Instagram DM us to enquire about a space!
  • Are there training sessions during summer?
No, there are no official training sessions during the summer. However, if you are an experienced member, have a gym membership, and are approved to shoot on your own in our indoor range, you can continue to train by yourself as you will have permission to the range.
  • Who is eligible to become a Novice?
Only those who fulfil both requirements: - have a beginner membership and - have never practiced archery before These are pretty strict rules and are not imposed by us, but by ArcheryGB. "Novice" is a competition category and that is why it must be kept as fair as possible with the above requirements. One can only be a Novice for one year.
  • How many novices are chosen?
Unfortunately, the number of novices we are able to select yearly is limited by the amount of club equipment available for borrowing, coaching capacity, and range space. We usually select 12.
  • How do I become a novice?
Novice selections are confirmed during early October. There is no exact science to choosing Novices, but those who attend beginner's sessions regularly, show enthusiasm to be a part of the club and/or skill are noted by committee members present. Then, a form to register your interest is sent out for you to fill out, and by October the committee will have decided on a novice team.
  • What does being a novice mean?
    - Special, novice-only, weekly training sessions. - The rental and use of great club equipment to train. - The opportunity to compete for the University in local and national competitions in the Novice category. - An ArcheryGB membership paid for by the club. A novice must be aware of the time commitment required. We love to see novices who take the time to attend the fun training, and show up for a couple competitions!
