The Novice Handbook

Keypass

Once you've been training with us for a while, you might be eligible to receive a Pleasance Keypass. What this means is that you would be given access to our indoor archery range. Read ahead to find out more information on what that involves and what you need to do in order to obtain it.

Safety:
Receiving a Pleasance Keypass means the Club committee has decided to trust you! Please respect all the guidance outlined below and keep safety in mind at all times. Keypass access can always be revoked effective immediately if the Club committee deems one's actions irresponsible or unsafe.

How to obtain a Pleasance Keypass

In order to obtain a Pleasance Keypass, there are certain conditions that need to be met and expectations you'd need to fulfill.

  1. Most importantly, you need to show the Club committee you are able to behave responsibly and follow the safety guidelines strictly.

  2. If you become a Novice during semester 1, you must shoot at least 1 competition in order to receive a Pleasance Keypass in semester 2
In semester 2, novices will be allowed to shoot in groups of 3 or with at least one senior at any time while the gym is open.

  3. If you become a Novice during semester 1 and manage to qualify for BUCS Indoor Finals, you will be allowed to shoot by yourself after BUCS Indoor Northern Qualifiers.

  4. Everyone who became a novice during semester 1 will be allowed to shoot by themselves after BUCS Indoor Finals.

  5. If you become a Novice during semester 2, you might be able to obtain a Pleasance Keypass depending on approval of the Club committee.

NOTE: The range includes a workshop. Access to the workshop can only be granted by the Captain or Vice-captain.

You must not under any circumstances enter the workshop unless you are given explicit permission by the Captain or Vice-captain.

Agreement

  1. Club Committee members will ensure that all novices or prospective archers are instructed in and acquainted with the safety rules before any coaching begins.

  2. All arrows must be nocked at the shooting line and in such a way that the point is directed towards the target or floor.

  3. If for any reason it is necessary for an archer to go in front of the shooting line, or if for any reason it is deemed that continued shooting would result in danger or damage, then the cry “FAST” will be used, whereupon all archers will stop shooting immediately and remove the arrow from their bows and replace it in their quiver.

  4. No archer or spectator may touch or interfere with any item of personal equipment belonging to another archer without express permission from the owner.

  5. In all cases of doubt about the proceedings, the Club will rule in according to the Archery GB rules. A copy of these rules must be available at all practices and matches.

  6. When more than one archer is present, all archers must shoot from the same pit/distance.

  7. The use of the workshop and its facilities is restricted to authorised Club members who have been versed in proper use of the equipment. Authorisation is granted by the Club Captain and is recorded in Club Keypass holders records.

  8. The Club Officials retain the right to withdraw Keypass access to the Pleasance range if any of the above terms and rules are not followed.

Peffermill Keypass

Peffermill is our outdoor range and is only open from April until August. In order to shoot at Peffermill, you would need to receive an Induction Talk by our Captain or Vice-captain.
